Lieutenant Colonel Borrett was born and raised in El Paso, Texas.  He attended the University of Texas at Austin and was commissioned into the Marine Corps March 2005 after graduating from OCC class 188.

After completing The Basic School in September 2005, Lieutenant Colonel Borrett reported to MATSG-21 in Pensacola, Florida for Aviation Preflight Indoctrination (API), Primary, and Advanced Flight Training. Lieutenant Colonel Borrett was designated a Naval Aviator in July 2007. He immediately reported to the CH-53E Fleet Replacement Squadron, HMH-302, in New River, North Carolina. At the conclusion of training in May 2008, Lieutenant Colonel Borrett reported to MAG-16, MCAS Miramar, California where he was assigned to HMH-466. 

In 2009, Lieutenant Colonel Borrett’s first deployment was an assignment to the 13th MEU attached to HMM-163 REIN. He served as the Communications Officer for the Air Combat Element. During the deployment, the HMH detachment supported Operation IRAQI FREEDOM from Al Asad, Iraq and POTUS in Egypt. Upon return to San Diego, Lieutenant Colonel Borrett served as the Ground Training Officer for HMH-466.  4 months later, January 2010, he served as the Current Operations Officer and deployed to Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan for Operation ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF).

Returning from deployment, Lieutenant Colonel Borrett was appointed to be an Air Liaison Officer for Special Operations Command Central Command (SOCCent) from October 2010 – April 2011 in Tampa, Florida.  When he resumed his fleet tour with HMH-466, Lieutenant Colonel Borrett served as the Quality Assurance Officer and deployed for 7 months to Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan in support of OEF through August 2012.

At the completion of the deployment, Lieutenant Colonel Borrett transferred to Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron (H&HS), MCAS Futenma, Okinawa, Japan.  From November 2012 to May 2016, he flew the UC-12W and the UC-35D and served as the Station Adjutant and Assistant Operations Officer.  During his overseas tour, he coordinated Operational Support Airlift for daily operations and various exercises in the pacific region.

In June 2016, after a brief CH-53E refresher syllabus at HMH(T)-302, Lieutenant Colonel Borrett reported to HMH-466 at MCAS Miramar, California and served as the Logistics Officer and Maintenance Officer.  He deployed to Okinawa, Japan with the Wolfpack in November 2017 as part of the Unit Deployment Program (UDP).

In August 2018, Lieutenant Colonel Borrett was selected for the Commandant’s Flight Detachment at Fleet Logistics Support Squadron ONE (VR-1), Joint Base Andrews, Camp Springs, Maryland.  He served as the Training and Operations Officer coordinating Executive Airlift for the Secretary of the Navy, the Commandant of the Marine Corps, and the Chief of Naval Operations.  He finished his last year at VR-1 as the Maintenance Officer.

Lieutenant Colonel Borrett completed a short tour at 1st Marine Aircraft Wing working for the Assistant Chief of Staff, G-3, prior to moving back to San Diego. 

Throughout his Marine Corps career, he has accumulated over 3,000 mishap-free flight hours. His personal decorations include the Air Medal-Strike/Flight with Numeral 9, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. 

Lieutenant Colonel Borrett is married to the former Lauren E. Buzbee of Tampa, Florida. They have a daughter, Olive (7).
