Colonel David B. Moore

Colonel David B. Moore was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in December 1996 after graduating from North Carolina State University with a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering. Following graduation from The Basic School in July 1997 and the Infantry Officer Course in November 1997, he reported to Naval Air Station Pensacola for flight training. He was designated Naval Aviator in June 1999.

Colonel Moore was assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Training Squadron 303 for training in the AH-1W in August 1999. He was then assigned to the HMLA-267 “Stingers” in Camp Pendleton, CA where he held various billets in Operations, Tactics, Maintenance, and the Department of Safety and Standardization (DSS), as well as Squadron Adjutant from January 2000 to June 2006. 

In June 2006, Colonel Moore reported to MAWTS-1 to serve as an AH-1W Instructor Pilot. While serving at MAWTS-1, Colonel Moore attended the Forward Air Controller Course at Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Pacific (EWTGPAC) and served as a Forward Air Controller (FAC). Colonel Moore was then assigned to Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, Virginia, where he earned a Masters Degree in Military Studies in June 2010.

Following Command and Staff, Colonel Moore reported to HMLA-467 in Cherry Point, NC where he served as the Future Operations/Tactics Officer and Executive Officer until January 2012.  He was then assigned as the Marine Aviation Training System Site (MATSS) New River Officer in Charge (OIC).  In November 2012, Colonel Moore was assigned to Second Marine Aircraft Wing Forward (2dMAW Fwd) as the Deputy G3/Current Operations Officer while deployed to Camp Bastion, Afghanistan. Upon return to CONUS, he reported to Headquarters Marine Corps, Department of Aviation to serve as APW-53, H-1 Requirements Officer in June 2013. 

In July 2014, Colonel Moore reported to Marine Aircraft Group 29 for duties as Commanding Officer of HMLA-467.  In MAG-29, he served as the MAG-29 Headquarters Squadron Commanding Officer before commanding HMLA-467 from January 2015 until June 2016.  Following command, he attended Top Level School (TLS) at the Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where he earned a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies in June 2017.

Colonel Moore was then assigned to United States European Command (USEUCOM) J35, Future Operations Directorate where he served as the Future Operations Branch Chief from 2017-2020. Colonel Moore’s last assignment was to attend the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS), London from 2020-2021, earning a Professional Graduate Certificate from King’s College in London.

Colonel Moore has deployed multiple times, participating in Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM, and to Okinawa, Japan as part of the Unit Deployment Program (UDP) and 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).

He is married to the former Samantha Conway of Quantico, Virginia.  They have four children: Amelia, 15; Leif, 13; Zachary, 11; and Beckett, 8.

His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, Air Medal-Individual Action with combat distinguishing device, Air Medal Strike-Flight numeral 3, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal with combat distinguishing device and three gold stars, and the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
