Sergeant Major Johnathan R. Radel

Sergeant Major, Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton

Sergeant Major Radel enlisted in the Marine Corps on 22 May 1995, and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. Private Radel attended the School of Infantry at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Upon completion, he was assigned to 2nd Battalion 8th Marines for duty as an infantry rifleman.  

During his tour with 2nd Battalion 8th Marines, Corporal Radel deployed to the Mediterranean in support of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit Special Operations Capable (SOC). Upon return, Sergeant Radel was transferred to 2nd Battalion 2nd Marines for duty where he deployed to the Mediterranean in support of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit Special Operations Capable (SOC). Upon completion of the deployment, Sergeant Radel received orders to Marine Security Guard School in Quantico, Virginia.

Upon completion of Marine Security Guard School, Sergeant Radel was assigned to U. S. Embassy Sarajevo, Bosnia and U.S. Consulate Hong Kong, China were he served as a watch stander, assistant detachment commander, and detachment commander. Upon completion of Marine Security Guard duty, Sergeant Radel was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant and transferred to 2nd Battalion 5th Marines for duty. During his assignment, Staff Sergeant Radel served as the machine gun section leader and weapons platoon sergeant in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II and 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit Special Operations Capable (SOC) operations.

Following his tour with 2nd Battalion 5th Marines, Gunnery Sergeant Radel reported to Staff Non Commission Officer’s Academy, Okinawa, Japan for duty as the Staff Non Commission Officer in Charge of Sergeant’s Course. Upon his selection to First Sergeant, First Sergeant Radel received orders to 2nd Battalion 2nd Marines for duty as the Golf Company First Sergeant were he deployed to the Mediterranean in support of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit Special Operations Capable (SOC). Upon return, First Sergeant Radel received orders to 8th Communication Battalion for duty as the Service Company First Sergeant. In August 2014, First Sergeant Radel received orders to Force Reconnaissance Company, III Marine Expeditionary Force for duty as the company First Sergeant until his selection to Sergeant Major.

In April 2016, Sergeant Major Radel received orders to Marine Wing Communication Squadron 18 to serve as the Squadron Sergeant Major. In December 2017, Sergeant Major Radel was transferred to Marine Aviation Logistic Squadron 36 serving as the Squadron Sergeant Major. In October 2019, Sergeant Major Radel received orders to Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton where he is currently serving as the Marine Corps Air Station Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Radel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Studies from the University of Maryland University College.

Sergeant Major Radel’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with combat distinguishing device and silver star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
