Lieutenant Colonel Ryan A. Schiller H&HS Commanding Officer

LtCol Schiller was born in Racine, Wisconsin. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1996 and served as a reserve 0311 with Golf Co, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines while attending the University of Wisconsin. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1999 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in February 2000. Upon completion of The Basic School in December 2000, LtCol Schiller underwent Naval Aviation training in Pensacola, Florida and Enid, Oklahoma. He was designated a Naval Aviator in July 2002 and subsequently reported to HMT-303, MAG-39, Camp Pendleton for instruction as an AH-1W pilot.

In January 2003, LtCol Schiller reported to HMLA-169 "Vipers" and served in various billets. In February 2003, LtCol Schiller deployed to Ali Al Salem Air Base, Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, returning in August 2003. In August 2004, LtCol Schiller deployed to Al Asad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 2-2 returning in March 2005. In March 2006, LtCol Schiller deployed to Al Taqaddum, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 5-7 and returned in September 2006 to attend Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course 1-07. LtCol Schiller deployed to Al Taqaddum, Iraq in September 2007 to support Operation Iraqi Freedom 6-8.2 to 7-9.1 and served as the Future Operations Officer/Squadron WTI.

In June 2008, LtCol Schiller reported to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Nine (VX-9) in China Lake, CA. He began conversion training in the AH-1Z and served as the AH-1W and AH-1Z Operational Test Director responsible for several Operational Test programs including the AH-1Z Operational Evaluation Phase III and Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System II laser guided rockets. LtCol Schiller was promoted to Major in August 2010 and assumed the billet of VX-9 H-1 Light Attack Branch Head.

In September 2011, LtCol Schiller reported to MAG-39, Camp Pendleton and was assigned to MAG-39 Operations as the AH-1Z WTI. In September 2012, LtCol Schiller reported to HMLA-267 "Stingers" to serve as the Aircraft Maintenance Officer and the Executive Officer.

LtCol Schiller reported to HQMC Aviation, Pentagon, Washington D.C. in May 2014 and was assigned as the Aviation Weapons Requirements Officer (APW-72).

In June 2017, LtCol Schiller reported to Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1) to serve as the Aviation Development, Tactics and Evaluation Department Head.

LtCol Schiller has accumulated over 3,200 mishap free flight hours. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with one Gold Star, Air Medal-Individual Action with Combat "V" and Strike/Flight Award with numeral "18", Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat "V" and three Gold Stars, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one Gold Star.

LtCol Schiller is married to his wife Martha from Sun Prairie, WI and they have three children: Olivia, Karly and Alyssa.
